GSA POINT LEADER VON SMITH BIDING HIS TIME UNTIL INDY

Get Screened America point leader Von Smith is more than ready to get back to work behind the wheel of his ’68 Camaro at the upcoming Mac Tools NHRA U.S. Nationals at O’Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis.

“Honestly, the summer lay off in the Get Screened America NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series, while it comes at a good time of the season – in the heat of summer – it’s still a bit of a bummer,” says Smith with a laugh. “Maybe it’s just me, but I just can’t wait to get back on the drag strip, back in competition. I’ve been counting the days till Indy ever since we left Norwalk.

“Howard [Moon, crew chief], Mac, Jarom and Terry – this whole Barwa Racing team have been busting their tails all year giving me the best possible race car on Sunday, and it’s shown. We couldn’t be any more proud of the fact that we’ve put this Pro Modofied Camaro in the winner’s circle for Barwa, Al-Anabi Racing and Sheikh Khalid three times so far in 2010, and we’ve still got some racing left to do.”

While Smith and the Barwa Racing team have seen their fair share of success in 2010, there’s no denying the level of the competition in Pro Mod’s first season as an official professional category in the NHRA and a lot can happen with three races left on the schedule.

“Having the points lead is nice, but this deal isn’t over until it’s over,” says Smith, speaking of his 85-point lead over Danny Rowe in the NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series points standings. “Our theory, with this team, is to keep pluggin’ away and not to ever take anything for granted. We’ve got to keep our focus, keep doing what we know we’re capable of doing, and hopefully we’ll be taking home the championship in Las Vegas. Like I said, though, you can’t get ahead of yourself out here – we’re racing against the best of the best.”

The Barwa Racing Pro Modified team will return to action at the historic O’Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis on September 1st through 6th during the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals presented by Lucas Oil.
