MAPLE GROVE RACEWAY PREPARES FOR SUPER CHEVY SHOW

The Super Chevy Show has visited some of the bigger drag strips in the country this season, including stops at the palaces of The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and the Texas Motorplex near Dallas.

But no event on the series' 10-race tour, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary, promises to be as big as the upcoming Maple Grove Raceway Super Chevy Show, scheduled for the famed facility on Friday, July 16 to Sunday, July 18.

A year ago, Maple Grove produced the largest Chevy happening in the country with an event that featured 560 drag race entries, 420 show cars and 250 entries to the event's flea market.

It's expected to be even bigger this year when the Super Chevy Show makes its annual appearance at Maple Grove Raceway, which is offering quite a draw for Chevy enthusiasts. The event docket includes both sportsman and pro show racing, a car show and swap meet and a visit from an NHRA legend.

"Maple Grove Raceway and Super Chevy have joined forces for over 25 years and the end results are the largest event on the tour," said Lex Dudas, vice president and general manager for Maple Grove Raceway. "The Northeast has a very large group of Chevy lovers and we're proud to host them every year in July."

The Maple Grove event has an solid list of attractions slated for the weekend. It includes the GM Outlaw Pro Mods, who invade famed Maple Grove Raceway with with two qualified fields of eight cars. The new outlaw Pro-Mod format marks a return to quartermile action at the Super Chevy Show. It will feature two ladders, one for normal-aspirated entries and one for supercharged Pro Mods.

But the fun for racing enthusiasts won't end there. The event will also get a visit from GM NHRA Super Stock and Stock competitors, who addition to a battle on the quartermile will also vie in a wheelstand competition. Also on hand are the jet funny cars First Strike and Top Secret, along with the jet dragsters of Queen of Diamonds and Beast from the East, who will square off to settle their own horsepower rivalry. Bob Hall's Astrovan Wheelstander, always a crowd favorite, will also be hand.

The top off for the event will be on Saturday with an appearance from NHRA legend Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins, who will pick his Top 10 from the Show and Shine area of the Car Show competition. This will be an added feature to the Super Chevy Magazine Editor's Choice Top 10 Awards as Super Chevy Magazine will be on site gathering information for feature stories, as well as taking photos of cars for their upcoming publications.
