HARRIS SCORES EMOTIONAL VICTORY

Big Dog racer Jason Harris suffered a high speed crash in the shutdown area of Piedmont Dragway. A year later he gave them something to cheer about.

Harris fought back emotion as he reached the winner's circle on July 1 at the most recent Big Dog Shootout at Piedmont. Just to think, he was ready to quit after the wreck.

"I've got people in my life who believed in me more than I believed in myself, because I wanted to quit and quit bad," Harris said.

Harris' Big Dog victory was his third to date, and likely the most important win of his entire heads-up career.

Harris' year-long comeback included a stint behind the wheel of a brand new 1970.5 Camaro before settling into the driver's seat of the former Mike Castellana Pontiac Firebird; a car the team acquired in April. Harris' win on Thursday was anything but a lucky break scenario on his one year crash anniversary, as Harris had to fight and drive his way to the winner's circle with a bottom half qualifying spot and wounded motor.

"After beating Perry on a holeshot, I felt like I had won the race already," said Harris of overcoming the usually overwhelming challenge.

Harris is competing in this his third season of Big Dog competition. His IHRA sportsman victories include divisional championships as well as national event wins that include Rockingham and Norwalk.
