VENEY HEADLINES NHRA LODRS DIV. 1 WINNERS

In the final results from Lebanon Valley Dragway it was Todd Veney and Darren Nicholson taking the wins and the trophies for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series and the 4th of July Celebration.

Indiana racer Veney, also qualified in the No. 4 spot then ran low elapsed time in each of the three rounds of eliminations including a 5.754 second run at 251.34 mph in his semi final round against reigning National champion Frank Manzo, Morganville, N.J. Outside of the driver's cockpit, Veney is a talented writer and contributor to Attitude's CompetitionPlus.com.

In the final round the second generation driver posted a 5.776 second, 251.67 mph lap in taking out Eric Lourie, Terryville, Conn., for his first win of the year.

Nicholson of Mission Viejo, Calif., qualified in the forth position in Top Alcohol Dragster and took out Richard Bourke, Old Tappan, N.J., in round one and was on his way to defending his title from last year.  Nicholson then out ran No. 1 qualifier Dan Mercier of Canada with a 5.438 second, 260.16 mph to set up a final round match up against current division champion John Finke.  Nicholson’s 5.511 second lap at 258.86 bettered Finke’s 5.698, 255.24 for the win.

A pair of New Yorkers also took home the hardware this weekend as Timothy Fletcher, Churchville, N.Y., drove his ’69 Camaro to the win in Stock Eliminator over Joe Santangelo, Malborough, Conn., and Anthony Fetch, Clifton, N.Y., took the win in Super Stock holding off Angelo DiTocco in his ’01 Firebird.

2009 division champions Frank Aragona Jr., and Mike Sawyer continued their wining ways with Aragona, Freehold, N.J., taking the win in Comp Eliminator defeating Vinny Barone, and Leominster, Mass., resident Sawyer drove past Alan Kenny for the win in Super Gas.

Jason Kenny took the Super Comp honors out of Kinston, Ont., CAN, while Ryan Ondrejko, Roslindale, Mass., went 201.04 mph in 6.926 seconds in his ’08 GTO for the win in Top Sportsman.  Kenny also won the prestigious JEGS Allstar event last month in the Super Gas class.

In Super Street it was Frank Duplissis, Flanders, N.J., while Glen Crane ousted Scott Luken, Perry Hall, Md., in Top Dragster.  Tina Duncanson took one for the female racers in Pro Stock Sled beating Scott Marsh, Highland, N.Y., on her ’10 Ski Doo.

Northeast Division racers head to Cecil County Dragway for the next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, August 20-22.
