MUSI FLIRTS WITH PERSONAL HISTORY

Pat Musi, with a 5.961 elapsed time at 229.98 miles per hour, was the provisional low qualifier following the first GSA Pro Modified qualifying session on Friday during the NHRA Summit Nationals.

For Musi, this marks the first time since the 1981 NHRA U.S. Nationals he has led a professional division under the sanction.

“It was pretty cool to be on top, but I know it's not over yet,” said Musi. “But we ain't over yet either. When we come out in the morning, we plan to lay one down.”

Musi sat out Friday's crash-filled second qualifying session and as a result, lost the top spot to Raymond Commisso.

“We just needed to work on the motor,” Musi revealed. “We're leaning on it pretty hard. You have to be on it. These guys are all on it. There's a lot of unlimited budgets in this class. You have to be on it just to stay on the game. My biggest regret is that I don't have an abundance of runs to draw data from, but that's going to come with time.”

Musi may use Saturday's qualifying to try out an engine displacing 904 cubic inches which was used by Dennis Radford during Friday qualifying.
