NHRA PLANS TO TEST RESTRICTOR PLATE, SMALL ENGINE IN NORWALK

The NHRA’s next round of nitro data gathering is scheduled for the Monday following the Summit Racing Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio. The plan is to use the nitro Funny Cars of John Force Racing and the Top Fuel dragster driven by Antron Brown.

Brown’s dragster will continue to test the restrictor plate concept, this time dropping the size of the opening by an additional 2 inches; down to about 19 square inches.

Brown’s dragster will continue to test the restrictor plate concept, this time dropping the size of the opening by an additional 2 inches; down to about 19 square inches.

A source within the NHRA believes by using the restrictor plate concept, it will enable the smaller fuel pumps tested in St. Louis and Chicago to become more feasible.

JFR will continue to develop data on the smaller displacement engine.

Earlier in the season, a member of the NHRA’s staff had conveyed the sanctioning body wanted to wrap up their tests as early as late July. The stance has reportedly changed and the deadline lifted. Now the NHRA, we are told, has said the testing will be done, when it is done – with no deadline.
