In addition to the Pro Stock entry of five-time world champion Jeg Coughlin Jr., and the 240-mph Pro Mod Camaro driven by Troy Coughlin Sr., the event will also include four additional JEGS entries wheeled by John Coughlin, Troy (T.J.) Coughlin Jr., and Samantha Kenny.

The JEGS Mail Order effort will be spearheaded by multi-time North Central Division champ John Coughlin, who will be pulling double duty behind the wheel of his JEGS.com Chevy Cobalt Comp Eliminator entry and his JEGS.com Top Dragster. “I am very much looking forward to this weekend,” said John. “I haven’t raced in a national event in a long time and I’ve really missed it. We have a new engine for our Comp car that is equipped with a set of cylinder heads from Carl Foltz so I believe we will be very competitive. I’m still new to the Comp car but I’ve already learned a lot and feel like I’m ready to start winning some races.

“I also think that my Top Dragster will be in the hunt,” John noted. “It shook the tires at the last divisional event we raced but we made some changes to the car and I see no reason why we can’t contend for the win in both classes.”

T.J., the first of the third generation Coughlin racers to capture an NHRA national event title, is looking to recapture the magic of his inaugural win last season in Las Vegas. He has been taking his lumps this season in an extremely competitive Super Comp class, but remains as dedicated as ever. T.J., is also looking forward to the rare opportunity to race alongside his father, Troy Sr.

“Having dad and the rest of the family at this race is what makes it special,” said T.J. “We all support each other and when one of us wins, the whole team wins.”

Last weekend, T.J., competed in the JEGS U.S. Open Bracket Championships in Indianapolis, recording one late round finish. Following the intensity of last weekend’s eighth-mile bracket competition in Indianapolis, T.J. is looking forward to his return to Super Comp.

“Last weekend was tough because [on an eighth-mile] things happen so quickly,” he said. “Hopefully, that experience will help me this weekend. I need to make a minor adjustment in my driving style to go back to Super Comp, but I feel pretty confident that I can do it and be successful.”

Samantha’s return to Norwalk represents a homecoming as it brings back many great memories from last year’s event, where she won her first major racing title. Kenny joined her father, Al, and brother, Jason, as NHRA national event champions.

“Last year was truly unbelievable,” said Samantha. “To get my first major win driving my dad’s car with my brother as crew chief and the whole JEGS team cheering me on was too much. I also got a chance to celebrate that win with a lot of good friends and that helped make it my most memorable racing experience so far. I can’t wait to race here again this weekend.”
