Scotty and Scott Cannon, along with their seven world championships worth of experience, are on the sidelines once again. The father and son Pro Modified duo were notified last evening by their major sponsor he had decided to step away from racing.

“I got a phone call from Bennie (Alfonso) saying that he would no longer be racing,” said Cannon, who was recently named as the No. 1 All-time Pro Modified driver. “We had planned to run the Northeast Outlaw Pro Modified Association’s schedule this year.”

The Cannons had teamed up with Alfonso last year to race in the North East Outlaw Pro Modified Association Series.

“We thought we had a secure deal to race again this year,” Cannon explained. “We have been thrashing at the shop to order all of the right parts and pieces. Now we need a deal to use all of this stuff we purchased.”

For all intents and purposes the elder Cannon is through driving and prefers the tuning end of racing. He prefers to tune for his son.

 “We have all of the things we need to run fast,” said Cannon. “If we can’t secure sponsorship, we would be willing to tune someone else as well. I can tune a car to run in any of the current sanctioning bodies that have a Pro Modified Class. We could run the ADRL or NHRA’s events, it doesn’t matter to us.”
