UTT JOINS KB RACING

Three-time NHRA Pro Stock champion Greg Anderson confirmed that veteran crew chief Tommy Utt would be joining Ken Black’s KB Racing team.  Starting with this weekend’s Thunder Valley Nationals in Bristol, TN, Utt will be working alongside crew chief Rob Downing as they tune the Summit Racing Pontiacs driven by Anderson and teammate Jason Line in the Full Throttle Drag Racing Series.

“We weren’t really planning this move, but when Tommy became available at the last race, we thought it would be a good change,” said Anderson.  “We feel we have great team here and try to hire the people we think are the best in the industry.  We certainly consider Tommy Utt among that group, so it was a unanimous decision by everyone here at KB Racing that he would be a welcome addition.

“This Summit Racing team has historically not been afraid to make changes in order to better our performance.  For example, last year we swapped race cars on several occasions, with each move providing a small benefit.  It’s a similar situation bringing Tommy on board.  Tommy brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, which combined with his methodical approach, will help us get back to where we need to be as a team.”

Utt, 54, has been a fixture on the drag racing scene since 1973, working in nearly every aspect of the industry, including driver, instructor and car builder before establishing himself as one of the top crew chiefs in the highly competitive Pro Stock category.  Having experienced success with such noted drivers as Dave Connolly, the Coughlin brothers, Richie Stevens and Gene Wilson, the Hillsville, VA native now looks to add his considerable talents to the championship contending KB Racing crew. He was most recently the crew chief for Rodger Brogdon.

“It is going to be exciting,” said Utt.  “This KB Racing team is fully capable of winning races and championships, which is one of the reasons I decided to make the move here.  I think they just needed another set of eyes to look at things and make these Summit Racing Pontiacs better and more consistent.  I’m going to try and help them out as best as I can, and we’ll see what happens.”
