Douglas Horne walked away from a high speed Top Fuel Motorcycle accident during an All Harley Drag Racing Association event Sunday in Numidia, Pa.

However, for Horne, who also races in the NHRA Full Throttle’s Drag Racing Series’ Pro Stock Bike division, he was far from uninjured.

The Aberdeen, MD resident suffered a fractured thumb on his right hand and a separated AC joint on his left shoulder. The AC joint allows the ability to raise the arm above the head.

“I guess with the surgery and rehabilitation it’s going to be a few months before I can return to competition,” said Horne, who was seeing a Baltimore hand-specialist on Monday afternoon. “As soon as I am recovered – I’m back in action.

“We are at the best place in town, the same place the professional athletes go to.”

Horne crashed during the quarter-finals on a run where he had just broke the beams at 226 miles per hour.

“When you’re going that fast and all you have is brakes to stop … I guess the wind must have gotten under my hand,” Horne speculated. “It blew my hand off the bars … try going 220 miles per hour on a bike with one hand. That blew me right off of the bike.”

Horne stepped up to the Top Fuel division last year from the Pro Fuel ranks.

“We were running real good and setting records,” said Horne, who has run as fast as 237 miles per hour with the bike he crashed. “We were doing real well until I had this mishap.”
