BRISTOL'S BLUE OVAL BASH DOMINATED BY NELSONS
The first Nelson to claim victory was Larry Nelson of Blountville. He drove to the win in the All Brands Super Pro category over Cody Spears. Nelson had a .027 reaction time and raced through the line in 5.936 seconds (5.91 dial-in) at 117.36 mph.
John Nelson Jr. of Bristol continued the Nelson dominance when he defeated a red-lighting Scott Vestal in the All Brands Pro category final. Nelson’s final run consisted of a .040 R.T., coupled with a 7.234 E.T. (7.23 dial-in) at 93.78 mph. He also earned the category win on Saturday afternoon when he defeated Carl Widner of Elizabethton with a 7.241 E.T. (7.24 dial-in) at 93.31 mph.
It was a Nelson kind of day on Sunday afternoon during the Thompson Metal Services Blue Oval Bash in Thunder Valley.

Jason Nelson of Bluff City earned the victory in Sunday’s Truck/SUV category. Nelson came off the line with a .185 R.T. and motored through the end of the track in 17.662 seconds (17.64 dial-in) at 77.98 mph. Nelson’s competition, Stephen Knight of Elkton, Va., went faster than his dial-in, receiving the disqualification.
Sunday’s Ford Super Pro win went to Robert Hindman. Hindman’s .018 R.T. and 5.255 E.T. at 130.62 mph were enough to snatch victory from Bobby McMasters of Ramseur, N.C. The Ford Pro win went to Rick Wyatt of Blountville, after Justin Buckles from Elizabethton picked up the red-light disqualification. Wyatt’s winning pass included a .078 R.T. and a 7.301 E.T. (7.28 dial-in) at 94.73 mph.
Steve McCoy of Mountain City earned Sunday’s Ford Sportsman victory due to a red light as well. McCoy reacted with a .083 R.T. and cruised through the top end in 13.128 seconds (13.11 dial-in) at 101.66 mph. McCoy’s competition, David Mormann of Tampa, Fla. picked up the red light by only .004 sec.
Saturday’s Ford Super Pro title went to Robert Hindman, after David South ran faster than his dial-in, throwing away a perfect .000 R.T. Hindman’s R.T. was a stellar .007, while he ran a 5.253 E.T. (5.23 dial-in) at 130.14 mph. Josh Wyatt of Blountville picked up the Ford Pro category on Saturday over Joe Cole of Elizabethton. Wyatt ran a 7.238 E.T. (7.23 dial-in) at 92.18 mph to pick up the victory.
The All Brands Super Pro win went to Shane Williams of Knoxville. Williams had a 7.897 E.T. (7.88 dial-in) at 87.85 mph to oust David Starnes of Blountville. Bristol’s Clinton Snead won the 8.50 Index Class over Nick Yarber of Abingdon, Va.
Rogersville’s Richard Newman defeated Kendra Hall of Mt. Carmel to win the Ford vs. World event on Friday night. Newman drove to the win with a 7.416 E.T. at 88.84 mph.
