Lance Styck driving his twin-turbo assisted small block powered Mustang used telepathic reaction times in rounds one and two to advance to the finals. He had a .402 light to defeat Jimmy Sandefur and a .441 to win over Baker. Parker had defeated Mark Sisk and Jamie Hancock to reach the finals.

In the finals, the large crowd was on its feet to see if Styck could become the first turbo car to win a Dixie event. Styck did his job on the tree, leaving first .424 to .493 but couldn't hold off Parker's 4.25, 167 MPH charge. The margin of victory was three one hundreths of a second as Styck recorded a 4.35 at 164 mph.

In the Top Eliminator bracket race, David Mitchell representing the Super Pro class defeated Footbrak racer Walter Stargel. Matt Mitchell and Mike Puckett were semi-finalists.
