VMP PREPARED FOR FIRST '10 EAST COAST SUPER CHEVY SHOW

The Super Chevy Show is kind of like the carnival of motor sports - it offers a little bit of everything for everyone. Whether you like sportsman or pro-class drag racing, an eye-pleasing car show, or the ever-popular swap meet, this event is for you. It's also a national touring series with regional flavor, and that will be evident when the Super Chevy Show makes its first East Coast stop of the season, visiting Virginia Motorsports Park (VMP) on Saturday, April 17 and Sunday, April 18.

The weekend's highlights include the Nitro Xtreme Doorslammers, Jet Funny Cars, ProMod Corvettes and four bracket racing classes. Car show enthusiasts will be in heaven as VMP traditionally attracts one of the largest entry lists on the 10-race Super Chevy Show Series. Racing and car show fans will also be treated to one of the largest vendor swap meets on the tour.

Participating Merchant's Tire Stores, presenting sponsor of the Virginia Super Chevy Show, are offering discount coupons good for $5 off any single-day spectator admission, or half price full-event tickets. Virginia Motorsports Park and local General Motors car dealers are also providing a $20 discount for passengers of car show participants. One passenger with each car show participant will be able to buy a weekend pass for only $12. It's the first time the track has offered such a discount, and it is expected to provide the Virginia Super Chevy Show with one of the largest car show turnouts in recent event history.

"The tradition of Virginia Motorsports Park having a Super Chevy Show event at this track for 15 years is one of the things that has allowed it to get so big in terms of car show participants, racers, and swap meet vendors," said Bryan Pierce, Virginia Motorsports Park general manager. "One new element for this year that will keep it growing is our presenting sponsor Merchant's Tire, whose store locations in central Virginia have discount coupons for spectators wanting to come out and experience a great event."

One of the series' biggest attractions is the car show, which features multiple categories and classes from classic to contemporary, and modified to custom. This being the first East Coast stop, a large contingent of entrants are expected.

"The Virginia event is always one of the most-well attended car show events on the series tour and has a high caliber of cars to be judged every year," said Super Chevy Show car show coordinator Andy Hendricks. "They come from all over the East Coast, as far as Florida in the South, and Maine in the North. It’s an impressive show for fans and competitors alike. This year's participants will be pleased to know that they will all receive event dash plaques, high quality awards on Saturday and Sunday, and jackets for Class Winners. The new ownership group is treating the car show participants great at these events."

This is the second of the 10-race Super Chevy Show, which kicked off under new ownership with the Las Vegas Super Chevy Show in March. The show produced quality racing and eye-popping car show entries. More of the same is expected next weekend at VMP.

"We had such a great West Coast season opener and are very excited to bring the series to all of the fans on the East Coast," said Tom Kreager, Super Chevy Show general manager. "Participants will be glad to know that for the first time in years, Super Chevy Magazine staff writers and photographers will be at Virginia to record the event in stories that will be published this summer."
