On Mon., Mar. 8, racing fans can see the finals in Nostalgia Funny Car, Nostalgia Top Fuel and 12 other classes for free at the track, said Blake Bowser, vice president and general manager of the Kern County Racing Association, operators of Auto Club Famoso Raceway and producers of the March Meet. Gates open at 8 a.m. and the action starts at 10 a.m.

“We had a great 3 days of nostalgia racing, but some weather issues and oil-down delays caused us to lose about 5 hours of racing,” said Bowser. “It’s that simple: we ran out of time. In order to put on the best show for the fans, we felt continuing the competition on Monday would be best. “The racers want to win and the fans deserve to see it.”

Among the exciting racing on Monday will be the semis and finals in both Nostalgia Top Fuel and Nostalgia Funny Car. In Top Fuel, Denver Schutz faces Howard Haight in one semi-final while Brad Thompson and Adam Sorokin battle in the other.

In Funny Car, it’s Josh Crawford versus former NHRA driver Gary Densham, and Lee Jennings facing Leah Pruett-LeDuc.   

The world famous drag race is the season opener of the NHRA’s Hot Rod Heritage Series. Five hundred cars started competing last Friday in 14 classes.

“We haven’t had a delay since 2006,” Bowser said. “Now fans will get an extra day of drag racing, and that’s what the March Meet is all about.”

Now celebrating 52 years of racing, the March Meet is a three-day speedfest that enthusiasts call ‘the jewel of Nostalgia Racing.’  It attracts drag racers and spectators from around the world and also includes a hot rod car show, swap meet and a vendors’ midway. 

The 2010 March Meet is also the first race of the Hot Rod Heritage Series, the NHRA’s 9-race nostalgia racing series.
