Two months after taking home the trophy at the season-ending NHRA Finals Summit Racing teammates Greg Anderson and Jason Line returned to the racetrack, taking part in last week’s test session at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Bradenton, FL.  Over the course of five days, the KB Racing crew worked tirelessly, logging well over 50 runs on three cars in preparation for the 2010 Full Throttle season with Ronnie Humphrey joining Line and Anderson behind the wheel.
 
This pre-season outing was crucial to Anderson, as it would be his first on-track experience with his brand-new Summit Racing Pontiac. Topping all Pro Stock participants at the Sunshine State test, the three-time champion posted a best effort of 6.522-seconds at 211.96 mph, a result that left him cautiously optimistic heading into the season-opening Winternationals.

“I think our test session went quite well,” said Anderson.  “We’re obviously pleased to have run better than everyone else, but our primary goal for the week was to learn as much as we could, and we did.  We have a new Rick Jones-built GXP that is slightly different from our last three RJ cars, and from the first run off the trailer, it performed flawlessly.  It came out of the gate very smooth, without any of the usual new-car gremlins, and was fast and consistent.
 
“This new Summit Pontiac seems to have a very wide tuning window, because even though we threw a lot of things at it, it still went down the racetrack every time.  Comparing it to the previous design cars driven by Jason and my brother-in-law Ronnie, it pretty much acted better in every aspect.  Whenever you bring out a new car, you always wonder when it’s the right time to use it in a race, but we’re not at all nervous to start the season with this particular car.
 
“We ran for five days straight, made a lot of runs and learned quite a bit.  Having gotten through most of our list of things we wanted to do and try, we’re going to skip going to Las Vegas before the season, allowing us to save a little money in travel that we can use elsewhere.  This will be the first time we miss the Vegas test session, but we’re comfortable enough with our race cars that we can spend the time fine-tuning our engines before heading to Pomona.”
 
For 2006 NHRA Pro Stock champion Line, the Bradenton test also offered a welcome chance to strap into his race car and shake off any rust accumulated during the two past months.
 
“It was good to get back in the race car and get re-acclimated,” said Line.  “You’re always a little out of sorts when you haven’t driven for a while, so I welcomed the opportunity to get in some practice.  We may not have set the world on fire, but we weren’t there to win the test, and we learned a few things about my Summit Racing Pontiac that we can use moving forward.  You always want to go faster, but all things considered, it was as good a test session as we could have hoped for.  We’re ready to get the season started.”
