WYATT'S TRIP DOWN UNDER MORE THAN JUST SHIPPING RACE CAR

DSB_47361hiresmedJust what does it take to move a USA based Nitro Funny Car outfit 11,559 kilometers, or 6235 nautical miles, across the world to Australia for two rounds of USA vs AUS Nitro Funny Car racing at Willowbank Raceway for the International New Year Series?

The answer? A lot…just ask Jack Wyatt, who along with his crew recently spent two days packing everything for the trip into containers onto the ‘Cap Palliser’ container ship which is currently ferrying the precious cargo and Gary Densham’s Nostalgia Nitro Funny Car across the seas for the January 2 and January 16 twin-events.

This is just some of what it takes to get the operation to Australian shores:

- 30 hours/1800+ miles of driving (from Iowa to Long Beach, California to load the ship)

- Two days and four people to pack the equipment

- One Container, containing Wyatt’s Nitro Funny Car and Gary Densham’s Nostalgia Funny Car

- Nine pallets, containing: 4 motors, rods, pistons, specially blended Valvoline Oil, 8 clutch discs – one set for each run down the quarter mile, 3 Super Chargers and 150 plus tools

- One container ship – The 186m x 28m, 21,700 tonne Cap Palliser Cargo Ship

- 30 days and 6235 nautical miles of travel to Australia by the Cap Palliser

- Eight crew members, plus Wyatt and Densham, travelling from Los Angeles Airport to Brisbane Airport, with a flight time of approximately 14 hours

“It is a massive undertaking but we couldn’t be happier to be coming over to Australia to race against the Aussies in front of the fans there, and try and take out the title,” said Wyatt.

“My son and I spent two days packing the trailer up with everything that we need for the trip, with Gary (Densham) advising us on what we can expect Down Under we are pretty confident we are as prepared as we can be, and we just can’t wait.

“Plenty of spares, tools, and of course our Nitro Funny Car, as well as Gary’s Nostalgia Funny Car which will also be running at the Willowbank Raceway events are now on their way across the seas, and the team will arrive late December to complete the final preparations.”

The International Nightfire New Year Series will take place over two rounds – January 2nd and January 16, 2010, featuring the USA vs AUS Nitro Funny Car challenge in a “Chicago Shootout” format at 6.00pm (round one), 8.00pm (round two) and 10.00pm (final – where the fastest Australian will compete against Wyatt for national pride) over both rounds, and a massive support category featuring Supercharged Outlaws, Dragsters, Hot Sedans and Motorbikes, and at round two, the Turbocharged, High Tech, 6 second 300kmh PRO FX Coupes and a massive field of Pro Street Cars.
