PAT MUSI HEADED TO VEGAS LOADED FOR BEAR

1114091623Pat Musi is going to this weekend’s Pacific Street Car Association Street Car Super Nationals in Las Vegas with enough determination to sink a battleship. The Pro Street drag racing icon has a few tricks up his sleeve, even to the point the competition will see him as a lesser man, literally.

Musi has lost 42 pounds over the course of the last few months and that combination paired with a brand new lightweight Jerry Bickel-built Dodge Stratus powered by a 903-inch, EFI-equipped engine has him brimming with excitement.

“I plan to be 198 by the time I get to Vegas,” said Musi, who was already down to 201. “No one can believe it. They think I’m smoking crack or something.”

But for Musi, re-establishing his role as the Pro Street front-runner calls for this level of dedication, and he’s more than willing to put forth the effort.

“We had to add 175 pounds to make weight for the 2,500 weight minimum,” Musi explained. “The car weighs, with me in it, 2,325 pounds.”

And for Musi, he’s counting every calorie this Mopar takes in, even in the engine. The 903-incher weighs 636 pounds with fluids and starter.

“We’ve been working on this engine for over a year and now it’s time for it to deliver,” Musi said. “I am doing everything in my power to provide the best opportunity for it to succeed.”

Musi believes he’s got a combination capable of running with the supercharged and turbo entries and that’s what largely fuels his passion.

“Mel has probably done the most of any of the promoters to get enough weight off of the nitrous cars to make us competitive,” Musi said, referring to event organizer Mel Roth. “I don’t give a s*** who is in the other lane, there are going to get something.”

The potent punch, Musi says, is only one of the surprises he has in store for the competition. He admits another surprise is coming but he’s going to let them find that one out on their own.

Musi isn’t coming to this battle alone. He’s bringing a score of customers and friends including Vinny Demieri, Joe Dunne and Tim Henry. Originally there were supposed to be four cars racing in the group but Hector Estrada couldn’t make the trip to Las Vegas due to family commitments.
