The ten-time NHRA Pro Stock champion recently underwent a heart procedure to upgrade his pacemaker and thus far, he’s doing well.

“The surgery was just a piece of cake,” said Glidden, on Tuesday evening from his home in Whiteland, Ind. “I had to go from a two magneto to three mag combination.”

Glidden confirmed that he’s got a few more procedures to go but thus far everything is going according to schedule.

Known for his back-breaking work ethic, when Glidden and his doctors had planned the procedure, he didn’t notify many people because he didn’t believe it was anything out of the ordinary. He’d planned to leave the hospital that same day after heart surgery.

“They kept me a little while,” said Glidden, who went home the next day.

Glidden, on the day before his surgery, made a near cross-country flight to Las Vegas, signed autographs as part of the NHRA SEMA breakfast and flew back home. He arrived in Indianapolis at 1 AM, with surgery scheduled five hours later.

“I cut it a little close there,” Glidden said. “But I slept well when I went under. It’s some of the best sleep I’ve ever gotten.”

And with his work ethic, even after retirement, good sleep is a good thing for Glidden.
