BOLLMAN, DIPASQUALE REPEAT AT DUTCH CLASSIC

bollmanConsidering the number of cars entered in the Pennsylvania Dutch Classic, repeating as a winner is quite an accomplishment.
 
That’s what happened Sunday evening as Erich Bollman and Joe DiPasquale were able to win for a second year in a row in their respective classes as the four-day event concluded at Maple Grove Raceway.
 
The two joined Jim Daniels, who clinched back-to-back wins at The Grove in the Mopar HEMI Challenge earlier in the day.

That’s what happened Sunday evening as Erich Bollman and Joe DiPasquale were able to win for a second year in a row in their respective classes as the four-day event concluded at Maple Grove Raceway.
 
The two joined Jim Daniels, who clinched back-to-back wins at The Grove in the Mopar HEMI Challenge earlier in the day.
 
Over 450 cars were in the field and champions were crowned in eight classes.. This was the final race of the season in the NHRA Northeast Division and was also the Sony/P.C. Richard.com National Open for the division.
 
Bollman (Newark, Del.) won in Competition Eliminator, taking his 1992 Probe to Victory Lane once again. He beat Pat Ross (Avon Lake, Ohio) in the final when Ross left the starting line too early. Bollman still made a good pass of 7.705 seconds at 176.07 mph. He advanced to final when Richard Schonberger (Southampton, Pa.) fouled in the semifinals.
 
DiPasquale (Palmyra, N.J.) took Top Dragster by beating Bob Cireddu (Perry, Ohio) in a holeshot, running 7.072 at 184.95 with a reaction time of .004. Before taking a single in the semifinals, DiPasquale, a regular at Cecil County Dragway, had a close race with John DiBartolomeo (Beaver Springs, Pa.) in the quarterfinals, running just .005 above his dial-in, while DiBartolomeo was .007.
 
The Super Stock final, which was the final race of the day, was interesting as the winner was Gary Richard (Bay Shore, N.Y.), part of the P.C. Richard family. He drove his ’07 Cobalt to the win as runner-up Norm Hall (Waldorf, Md.) fouled at the start.
 
dipasqualeSuper Comp had the weekend’s only local winner as Joey Cambria (Reading, Pa.) drove his dragster to a pass of 8.911 at 158.45. Ed Meyer (Carlisle, Pa.) was slower off the start and then guaranteed Cambria’s victory with a breakout of .755.
 
Dennis Gaborlault (Millbury, Mass.) took the Top Sportsman trophy in his ’07 Mustang as Glenn Teets Jr. (Manassas, Va.) was a no-show in the final.
 
Clint Walters (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) won Stock Eliminator in his ’67 Nova as Christina DiBartolomeo (Beaver Springs, Pa.) fouled at the start.
 
Earl Nichols (Wilmington, Del.) won a thriller in Super Gas. He took his ’78 Corvette to a pass of 9.901 at 147.13, just .001 off his index. The margin of victory over Ed Alessi (Howard Beach, N.Y.), who ran 9.9.13 at 155..49 in his ’63 Pontiac, was just .0047 seconds, or about 13 inches.
 
Jimmy Stack (Philadelphia, Pa.) took the Super Street category in his ’71 Challenger. His winning pass was 11.110 at 118.86, a little off the index of 10.90 but more than enough as Ryan Roberts (East Meadow, N.Y.) was slow off the start.
 
Earlier Sunday, Daniels (Bristol, Pa.) took home a prize of $12,666 as he won the HEMI Challenge by beating local David Barton (Robesonia, Pa.) in the final with a pass of 8.284 at 159.53 in his ’68 Dart.
