EDWARDS IN A LEAGUE OF HIS OWN AT MEMPHIS

Mike Edwards is back at it again. During first day qualifying in Memphis, the soft-spoken Pro Stock driver from Coweta, psOk, was gobbling up those bonus qualifying points at breakneck speed.

He grabbed six of them during provisional qualifying for the NHRA Midsouth Nationals at Memphis Motorsports Park.

Edwards contends that he’s just performing the same routine he’s always done throughout his racing career.

“We try to race the track and race the conditions and do the very best we can,” Edwards said. “Those qualifying points add up and can equal to a round win. Hat’s off to my guys and I give God the glory.”

But, then there’s the competitor in Edwards that believes he had just a little bit more for the competition.

“We might have left a little on the table down low,” Edwards admitted.

“I’m living a dream right now,” Edwards said after pausing to smile. “I’ve dreamed all of my life to be able to come out here and compete like this. This kind of stuff goes as quickly as it comes. I’m going to enjoy it while I’m running good.”

Last weekend, Edwards fell two round wins short of making a clean sweep of the NHRA Fall Nationals when a flickering stage bulb broke his concentration in the semi-finals against eventual winner Greg Anderson.

He hopes to make amends for that shortcoming this weekend.

“I’m going to try and do everything right this time,” he concluded.
