And they are serious about rekindling the glory of the old AHRA.

“We will be making some major announcements in the near future,” confirmed Troy Moe, C.E.O. of the new AHRA. “We are putting together a 2010 AHRA Reunion tour.”

According to Moe, the AHRA Reunion tour will consist of nitro cars and expand to sportsman cars because as he puts it, “We will be very prominent in sportsman racing”.

“That’s the grassroots of the AHRA and that’s what we will focus on. But … we are in the entertainment business so we have to bring in the other stuff too.”

As soon as contracts are signed and dates procured, Moe said announcements will be made. He estimates the 2010 schedule could be announced in the next two weeks.

Moe’s team is comprised of individuals who primarily worked behind the scenes for the NHRA and IHRA. For instance, Tom Kreager, Vice President of Operations, has pulled tours of duty with the NHRA and IHRA. In his latest stint with the IHRA, Kreager served as the sanctioning body’s track liaison.  Then there’s Jim Tice Jr., Senior Vice President, whose father Jim Tice, founded and grew the original AHRA sanction in the 1950s.

Rod Saint serves as the President of the group and was the one responsible for procuring the original trademarks of the AHRA.

The new AHRA is starting to look like the AHRA of yesterday with each passing day.

Moe said that while there are some who are treating his group as a competing sanctioning body to the NHRA, he’s not prepared to say whether he’s ready to put the boxing gloves back on and fight for their market share.

The new AHRA will not be limited geographically to one region or even to the continental United States. They’re looking into Canada.

“We’re just out here doing our thing and where it leads – it leads,” Moe said. “We happened to know what we are doing. We think it is an excellent opportunity. Times are tough there and NHRA has its issues. IHRA has a lot of changes coming up.

“We’re not going to be ultra-aggressive in 2010. We are just getting out there and doing some things with the sportsman racers and putting on some reunion events. I think that will set the foundation for what we are doing in 2011.”
