The NHRA is not saying Guidera failed to pass a drug test. They have suspended him for one year, for failing to submit, within 24 hours of receiving a notice.

Guidera is the first professional driver to be suspended for this particular infraction according to Anthony Vestal, NHRA Media Relations Manager. There have been drivers in the sportsman ranks who have been suspended.

Guidera, who retains his current points in the Countdown to the Championship, can appeal the suspension, as laid out in the NHRA rulebook. He must file an appeal within 30 days, along with a $1500 fee which is nonrefundable unless Guidera was to win his appeal. Once Guidera files his appeal, NHRA has 30 days to convene a three member NHRA Review Panel to hear the appeal.

In addition, Guidera may file a request for a “stay of the action” in writing, which if granted would allow Guidera to participate in NHRA sanctioned events until the appeal is heard.
