MORE PLAYOFF SPOTS CLINCHED

The number of available Countdown to 1 playoff berths decreased by nine following Sunday’s final eliminations at the NHRA Lucas Oil Nationals in Brainerd, Minn. Four Top Fuel, one Funny Car and four Pro Stock Motorcycle riders qualified for the right to battle for their respective championships beginning at next month’s NHRA Carolinas Nationals in Concord, N.C.

Teammates Morgan Lucas and Shawn Langdon, along with Spencer Massey and Cory McClenathan secured their positions in Top Fuel leaving two available positions with two qualifying races left.

Jack Beckman was the sole clincher in the Funny Car division. Six spots remain open in Funny Car.

Like Top Fuel, the Pro Stock Motorcycles put four into the playoffs beginning with Matt Smith on Saturday, and adding Doug Horne, Craig Treble and Hector Arana on Sunday.

No Pro Stock drivers were able to clinch this weekend.

Only the top 10 points earners in the Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock, and Pro Stock Motorcycle classes will take part in the playoffs.
