“This is my second wreck of the year so I think we’re going to take the rest of the season and evaluate things.”

Those were the words of Mike Yedgarian, an NMCA Super Street racer from Toronto, Ont., who traveled to zMax Dragway to compete at the NMCA/NMRA All-Star Nationals in Concord, N.C.

Yedgarian lost control of his turbocharged Firebird during the final session of Mickey Thompson 10.5 Tire qualifying. His car made contact with the retaining wall and skidding to a stop in the shutdown area.

“It’s one of those things where we’re happy with the power the car is making but unfortunately this is the second time we have wrecked this season,” Yedgarian added. “We’ve got some car issues.”

Yedgarian is appreciative of the efforts engine builder Proline has made to provide an abundance of horsepower. At this point, he’s faced with the reality that a wealthy amount of horsepower is best served when applied with the proper combination.

“These cars are making way too much power for the 10.5 tire and we need to get back and put it on the drawing board,” Yedgarian said. “We just need to figure out what we need for next year. We’re not a quitting team.

“Just like any combination, you have to put the time and effort into it. You have to get a good handle on how to introduce the power.”

Yedgarian told CompetitionPlus.com that he will likely return next season with a new car.

“This accident may have taken the wind out of my sails but at the same time it has motivated me,” Yedgarian said. “I love this game and I have been doing it for many years. I just couldn’t get myself motivated to go to work if I didn’t have a race car. You can bet on seeing me back.”
