JEFF HEFLER NAMED TEXAS RACEWAY GENERAL MANAGER

Texas Raceway has hired former NHRA World Champion and longtime Texas Raceway competitor Jeff Hefler as the facility’s General hefler.jpgManager. Hefler, a 39-year old native of Kennedale, TX came onboard as the track’s Racing Operations and Marketing Director in 2008. He continued those duties this season, before taking a brief leave to once again take the wheel of a sportsman racing machine. During his recent tenure behind the wheel, Hefler achieved the success he is familiar with; earning a victory at the Super Chevy event, a Top Dragster shootout victory at Texas Raceway, and a semi-final finish in the $50,000-to-win Ultimate 64 Shootout in Cincinnati, OH. Hefler is now back at the helm at Texas Raceway, and looks forward to helping the established facility continue to grow and prosper.

“I’m a racer, through and through,” explained Hefler, who has proven his versatility as a driver over the years; competing successfully in various sportsman and bracket classes, driving everything from dragsters to fast, wheel standing doorcars, and mid-4 second nitrous assisted 5-speed machines. “I grew up here at Texas Raceway, and this facility means a lot to me. I love racing; I love the people and I love the competition. I’m really excited to have the opportunity to increase my involvement with Texas Raceway, and to take on all the challenges of operating a facility of this magnitude. We will continue to give people a safe, friendly, and fun place to compete; just as it has been for my entire life.”

Hefler began his accomplished racing career at Texas Raceway, and has been a regular fixture at the facility for his entire life. He won countless big dollar events and track championships at Texas Raceway and several other South Central facilities in the 1980’s and beyond before teaming up with local auto dealership mogul Buz Post and chasing the NHRA tour. With Post, Hefler achieved his most notable success. He was the 1998 NHRA Stock Eliminator World Champion, and has earned eleven NHRA national event victories in three categories (Stock, Super Stock, and Super Gas). He claimed the NHRA Division 4 Championship on a whopping seven occasions, including four E.T. Bracket Finals crowns. He’s twice won the NHRA Division 4 Race of Champions, and captured the JEGS All-Stars title on two occasions as well.

“I want to increase the level of excitement for the racers and also the fan’s experience at Texas Raceway” expressed Hefler.  "In terms of sportsman bracket racing, this place has such a history: some of the top competitors in the nation called this track home at some point in their careers. Edmond and Scotty Richardson, Tommy Phillips, James Paul, Luke Bogacki, my brother and I, we all got our start right here. It’s really exciting for me to see the next generation come up through the ranks and to be a part of continuing this tradition.”

“Jeff brings with him his desire to win attitude, high work ethics and his complete passion for drag racing. I look forward to working with him again and feel the sky’s the limit” stated Cindi McMillan, owner of the facility.
