event win at the NHRA Summit Racing Equipment Nationals at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio.  Manzo was joined in the winner’s circle by the reigning Top Alcohol Dragster champion Bill Reichert of Owosso, Mich.  Reichert’s win was his first on the national event level this season.

Manzo, who hales from Morganville, N.J., notched the 82nd national event win of his career when he ousted Davenport, Iowa’s Chris Foster in the final.  Foster’s performance had improved with every run during eliminations but he could not keep pace with Manzo who logged the class’s best elapsed time (5.574 seconds) and speed (259.63 mph) and was the No. 1 qualifier.  In the final, Manzo laid down a 5.618-second, 256.70 mph pass to Foster’s 5.654-second effort at 253.28 mph.

Reichert has won three divisional events this year and is just a tick behind Jim Whiteley in the national point standings.  But Reichert had his hands full in the final, taking on No. 1 qualifier Michael Manners of Willis, Texas.  Manners’s last two runs had been in the 5.2-second range and Reichert’s final lap of 5.318 seconds was his best of the weekend.  Manners went up in smoke at the start handing the win to Reichert.

Super Stock racer Joe Covert of Saukville, Wis., took his ’05 Grand Am to the winner’s circle when he dispensed with Jeff Dona, Gordonville, Mo., and his ’69 Camaro in the final.  Wellington, Ohio’s Rick Baehr earned the win in Stock Eliminator behind the wheel of his ’88 Mustang when he beat Randy Simpson of Streator, Ill., and his ’67 Camaro.  Samantha Kenny of Delaware, Ohio, earned her first win when she jettisoned Jason Folk, Bradenton, Fla., in the Super Comp final and Craig Anderson, Waxahachie, Texas, won his sixth national event, grabbing the Super Gas win over former national champion Iggie Boicesco of Warminster, Pa.
