T-PED NITROFISH ENCORE?

It’s four days after Kenny Koretsky was photographed holding the race winner’s trophy following the NHRA SuperNationals in KKwinnerscircle.jpgEnglishtown, N.J., and the veteran businessman/team owner/driver hasn’t stopped smiling.

No surprise here because this was his first victory of any kind in NHRA’s nitromethane-fueled categories (Top Fuel and Funny Car) or Pro Stock Car in more than three decades of trying.  It came from two-time Full Throttle Series champion Tony Pedregon, who drove the vibrant Nitro Fish Impala to the Funny Car win.

That was quite a happy ending for the first collaboration between Pedregon and Koretsky’s Nitro Fish brand – and there could be more.

“It couldn’t have been a better weekend,” said Pedregon.  “I think the timing was right because we’d just come off a win at Chicago the week before and our car was running very well.  And I think it was just Kenny’s time to get a win.

“I’ve followed the Nitro Fish teams for quite awhile and I know his cars in Pro Stock and Top Fuel, when Clay (Millican) was driving for him, have always performed well.  I think he saw the potential to team up with a good, solid team now and his partnership for the Englishtown event really had a lot to do with our win.

“Kenny and I are working on some other opportunities,” Pedregon concluded.  “I don’t think that was the last time the fans will see the Nitro Fish Funny Car.”

“That was a great weekend!” exclaimed Koretsky, of Richboro, Pa., who is still savoring the experience.  “Tony’s win was great for all of us because it came in front of my hometown fans.  We had a lot of friends, family and business associates at the race and it made for some great winner’s circle pictures.  And we won the best appearing crew award.

“I went from smiling and shaking hands to bawling like a baby when Tony presented the Wally (a.k.a. the race winner’s trophy) to me in winner’s circle.  It’s my first in the nitro categories (Matt Smith won four Pro Stock Motorcycle events last year), and I got to take it home.

“I like the fact that Tony has a good balance between spending time with his wife and kids and his racing,” Koretsky continued.  “Tony’s a winner.  He knows what it takes to get the job done.  He has a great crew, and Dickie Venables is a great crew chief.
