POPPELL SHINES IN ATV DEBUT; BROCK SETS NATIONAL PRO MOD RECORD

Normally, Kenny Poppell rides motorcycles for a living as a regular in the American Motorcyclist Association Dragbike Series.  Sunday at  Rockingham Dragway, the Jesup, Ga., resident proved that the addition of a couple more wheels presents no additional challenge.

Driving competitive four-wheel ATVs for the first time, Poppell qualified No. 1 in three different classes, won two titles and was runner-up for a third in the inaugural Spring Pro ATV Warz.

Driving competitive four-wheel ATVs for the first time, Poppell qualified No. 1 in three different classes, won two titles and was runner-up for a third in the inaugural Spring Pro ATV Warz.

Poppell shared center stage with Kenny Brock of Nicholls, Ga., who earned a wire-to-wire victory in the featured Pro Modified class that included a national record setting eighth mile time of 5.572 seconds at 117.86 miles per hour in a final round victory over No. 1 qualifier Tim Mills, also of Nicholls.

Poppell was the No. 1 qualifier in Super Comp, Pro Street and Super Street and was the winner in Super Comp and Pro Street.

Other winners included Keith Purnell of Henderson in Super Street, Patrick Carroll of Henderson in Four-Stroke, Alex Smith of Waycross, Ga., in ET.  On Saturday, James Hunt of Rowland drove his ATV to an ET victory over the Kawasaki motorcycle of Andy Lynch of West Columbia, S.C.
