VICK WINS FARMINGTON DRAGWAY QUICK EIGHT
After a week of non-stop rain, drag racing fans in North Carolina took advantage of Saturday's beautiful race day conditions, filing into O'Reilly Farmington Dragway to enjoy an open field Pro Modified shootout. Local racer Steve Vick went the distance behind the wheel of his new Alan Pittman-built 1968 Camaro beating Todd Tutterow in a thrilling blower verses nitrous final round.
Vick's day began with on a tough note, breaking a wheelie bar in the opening qualifying session. Luckily for the veteran nitrous racer, his race shop is a few short minutes from the track. He may have missed the second session but came back with his final opportunity to gain a spot in the qualified field with 4.42 elapsed time at 127 miles per hour.
In the opening round of competition Vick ran a 3.96, 189mph to stop Randy Weatherford. A round later he beat Buzz Varner.
In the finals Vick beat Tutterow on both ends of the track using a 4.02, 182mph run to take the win.
Since picking up his new Camaro from Alan Pittman's shop in January, Vick has gone to 3 finals, including ADRL in Valdosta and a previous final at Farmington.
