FATHER-SON TEAM RUNNING STRONG IN 2009

Mayse Motorsports Looks to Build on Strong Start to 2009 Season

2008_Corvette_Roadster.jpgThe father & son team of Robbie and Rustin Mayse has enjoyed a successful, albeit frustrating start to the 2009 NHRA campaign. While the duo, which boasts numerous NHRA and big dollar bracket victories and championships in recent years, has enjoyed repeated success in NHRA competition this season, they have yet to hoist the coveted NHRA Wally in 2009.

“It’s hard to say we’re not off to a good start,” said defending NHRA Division 4 Super Gas champion Rustin Mayse. “Dad and I have both had some success. We’re driving well, our cars are great, and we’re going rounds. We just haven’t finished the job and put one in the winners circle yet.”

At the NHRA Spring Nationals at Houston Raceway Park back in March, Rustin Mayse advanced to the quarterfinal round of competition in Super Gas before falling to eventual winner David Jones in a double breakout affair. More recently, Robbie Mayse earned a berth in the final round of Super Comp eliminator at the NHRA LODRS event in Memphis, TN, only to fall to Joel Covington. The following week, Rustin was back on the scene in Super Gas, where he advanced to the semi-final round of the NHRA Midwest Nationals. There, once again, he lost a close battle to eventual winner Larry Berhausen.

On the strength of those finishes, both Robbie and Rustin have posted respectable early season scores within the Lucas Oil points chase. With just four events on his docket, Rustin Mayse lands in 39th position in the national Super Gas chase. Robbie Mayse currently sits tied for the 4th position in Division 4 Super Comp standings, while both Robbie and Rustin are in the top ten in Division 4 Super Gas rankings.

“It’s early in the season, and I certainly wouldn’t say we’re off to a stellar start,” said Rustin. “But we’ve had promising outings, and we’ve set a decent foundation in the points race. If either one of us gets hot, I think we could make some noise.”

The Mayse Motorsports team relies on backing from Brodix Cylinder Heads, TCI Automotive, Comp Cams, Milodon, Auto Meter, Holley Performance, AFCO Racing, Hoosier Tires, Advanced Product Design, Reeder Distributors, and Kendall Oil.
