Harry “Uncle Harry” Hoppes never drove a race car or attended the drag races for the matter, yet he was one of CompetitionPlus.com's biggest supporters.

Uncle Harry, brother of Diane Cartee, CompetitionPlus.com office manager, and uncle of publisher/editor Bobby Bennett, passed away this morning after a brief illness. Uncle Harry, brother of Diane Cartee, CompetitionPlus.com office manager, and uncle of publisher/editor Bobby Bennett, passed away this morning after a brief illness. He was four days shy of his 76th birthday.

Uncle Harry worked for 30 years as the circulation director for the Spartanburg Herald Journal, a New York Times-owned publication. He watched from the sidelines with pride as CompetitionPlus.com grew from a fledgling internet magazine to a heavily read and respected source for solid drag racing information. He understood the internet represented the coming age of journalism.

Uncle Harry was a Korean War veteran having served aboard the SS Weiss.
