Would be fantastic if the throwback became a reality. IT would be great. How can it be made to happen? - Tim

Truly an awesome collection of artwork! Brought back a lot of memories of the original cars & drivers, and I think they'd look really neat on today's f/c's,  too. Especially liked the War Eagle/Scelzi/Pulde combo, always loved the looks of that car! - Al Maciejewski

I like the idea of these throw back cars, what a great idea. I would like to see Larry Fullerton’s Trojan horse, and how about Lew Arrington’s Brutus. - Jeffrey Kammes

Very nice work but, I bet the Snake wouldn't approve of Tony Schumacher and the Army car. And PLEASE, give credit where credit is due, Raymond Beadle had nothing to do with that '73 Blue Max-he never got involved until 1975. It's too
bad everyone forgets that Jake Johnston, Richard Tharp and Harry Schmidt had already made the Blue Max a legend, long before Beadle. - Larry Rayl

What a great idea! It would be so cool if they could pull it off. Or how 'bout we just get them to field real nostalgia cars at Fomoso with those paint schemes. That may even be cooler!- Chris Capucini

We love this article!!  I have to throw one in, being from the northwest that would be great - Jim Green's Green Elephant car. - Bambee Haddock

The sad thing is, all of the fantasy funny cars look better than any Funny Car currently running. Maybe an owner will catch on to those cool ideas. - James Massey

This must be made a reallity for Indy this year as im planning on coming over to the states to watch!  Top drawings, cant wait to see part 2! - Mark Bishop, United Kingdom

As usual, you guys are on target. A 16 car field (32 anyone?) with all the old paint schemes. A great idea that hopefully will see the light of race day. Keep up the great work. - Bill Stephani

Thats the best idea I've seen come out of any drag racing publication in a long time.  There are so many great themes that can be affixed to the car and purhaps we'd be able to dispense with the usual 30 second sponsor plug at the end of a run.  Most fans and racers can read whats on the car signage. - Jerry Ferris

What a great idea. And your matching of the drives to the cars is great. Would love to see this happen for real! - Keith Kaufman

Just a minor correction on the paint layout for your Del Worsham 'throwback.' No Raymond Beadle 'Blue Max' ever looked anything like this -- the design is taken from the Richard THARP driven 'Max,' circa 1973. - David

Outstanding article and accompanying art.  Thanks.  Some ideas for Pt. 2: Whit Bazemore could be brought back in the Orange Baron Mustang - 1976 US Nat's winning paint scheme (he used to drive a 'Stang and is a bit of a loner, a la Gary Burgin, who could be brought back as crew chief; Mike Dunn in Roland Leong's Hawaiian Dodge; Gary Densham in his own Teacher's Pet Impala; Jim Dunn's old

Fireman's Quickie Impala with Tony Bartone; Cruz Pedregon in the Johnny Loper L'il Hoss Dodge; T-Ped in the Pedregon and Venables Quicksilver Impala; Jim Head in the Speed Racer Toyota; Ashley Force in the Million Dollar Baby Mustang; Phil Burkart in the Custom Body Dodge; Scott Kalitta in the Motown Shaker Toyota (yes, Toyota!); Tim Wilkerson in the USA-1 Impala; Bob Gilbertson in the (of course) Jungle Jim Impala; Zippy Neff in either the War Horse (beautiful purple

FC) or the Frantic Ford Mustang; Jeff Arend in the Bubble Up Pacemaker Impala; Dale Creasy in the Joe Pisano yellow, red fire and purple Impala.

Suffice it to say I could go on.  Enjoyed it.  Keep up the good work, and yes, let's have that article from Jon Asher. - John R. Murnan II

I thought this was an awesome article and fantasy. The NHRA should only be so cool. As a paint scheme designer myself for numerous nostalgia Funny Cars, I loved these cars.

Here are some thoughts for the future you should do:

Tom McEwen '78 Corvette, Tom Hoover's '79 Showtime,

Califirnia Charger, The Green Elephant (Bardahl), RAMCHARGERS,

Shirl Greer, Tommy Ivo's Rod Shop Dodge, MoTown Shaker,

(Avanti) Hawaiian, '79 Custom Body, Gary Burgin and

Mickey Thompson's '76 US Marines. - Dave Ferrin

GREAT cars........would love to see them on the track.

Mr. Russell has a wonderful talent.

How about the Ramchargers or my all time favorite "Barry Setzer's red car.....since Pat Foster is in bad health now? -
Jim Mullis

I really enjoyed looking at your article on "Throwback Funny Cars". Looking at those suggestions really brought back a lot of memories.

A few other cars I think would be great to see are the following.

Bounty Hunter.... Scott Kalitta
The Hawaiian..... Mike Dunn
Mr. Norms Super Charger.... (Kenny Safford would have to come out of retirement to drive it though)

Those are a few of my choices.  Then again I think it would be great to see a few more current Pro Stocks in a "throw back" paint scheme as well.. We've already seen Sox and Martin, The Rod Shop and if I'm not mistaken we've even seen The Mopar Missile. - Karl Wortman

I love the idea. Great art work. On January 19, the SuperCross race in Anaheim was a throw back night celebrating the 25th anniversary of the 1986 SuperCross race (the greatest SuperCross race ever.) All the riders wore throw back jerseys and the track was even designed like it was back in 1986.

The event was a huge hit.

Can you say merchandise sales? - Marc Gewertz
