Kyle Busch started from the pole and dominated Saturday's Boyd Gaming 300 from Las Vegas Motor Speedway to capture his first career Xfinity win at his hometrack.
The Las Vegas native led 199 of the race's 200 laps en route to the second victory of his 2016 Xfinity series campaign and his 78th career victory in the series.
The win was monumental for the 2016 Sprint Cup champion.
"It certainly was cool to have the opportunity to win here," Busch said. "I've had many of opportunities in the past and come up short or just haven't had quite the day we've needed to have in order to get it done. But today, this weekend, (Crew chief) Chris Gayle and everyone at Joe Gibbs Racing have been building some really good stuff and JGR engines are fast as well, too.
"The work that goes into everything makes my job today but today was pretty special. To be able to finally get a win here in the hometown and check that one off the list. I'm really excited about that."
In addition to Busch's victory, Joe Gibbs Racing flexed their Xfinity series muscle by placing all their cars in the top three.
2015's Rookie of the Year Daniel Suarez spent majority of the race running in the runner up position to his teammate. Rookie of the Year candidate Erik Jones overcame penalties for the second straight week to capture a third place finish.
Suarez, who now has two top-ten finishes on the young 2016 season, knows days like Saturday make his job fun.
"It's so much fun to have fast race cars like that," Suarez said. "Everyone works so hard in the winter and now it's paying off slowly. Everyone in the No. 19 Arris Camry did a good job, i think it was a clean day. Right there at the end it took me a while to figure out how to be fast through traffic with a loose racecar. Honestly in the last 10 to 15 laps we were the fastest racecar there. I'm so proud of my guys and I'm looking forward to next weekend."
For Jones the third-place finish is the first top-ten in two career starts at the 1.5-mile Nevada speedway. Jones does have a victory at the track in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series but knows he has to cut down on the mistakes if he wants to compete for wins at this level of racing.
"It was a long day for sure," Jones said. "We put ourselves in a hole and had to fight back all day to put ourselves back in position to at least have a shot at it. I never really did that after we got the lucky dog, we had to race back up to third and by that time I had pretty much burned the tires off of it so I settled in for third at that point and kind of rode the rest of the day out.
"Would've loved another caution, said the same thing last week, but would've loved the caution just to rerack everybody and get some tires on it to make one more adjustment. I had a better idea what I needed out of the car just by getting in some clean air after working through traffic for the last 100 laps or so. We just need to stop making mistakes and go on to next week and hopefully have a mistake free day."
Daytona-winner Chase Elliott piloted the No. 88 TaxSlayer.com Chevrolet to a fourth place finish. Last season's Las Vegas Xfinity winner Austin Dillon took home a fifth place finish followed by Brandon Jones, Ty Dillon, Elliott Sadler, Justin Allgaier and Brendan Gaughan rounding out the top ten.
With the third place finish, Daniel Suarez grabs the lead in the early Xfinity series points standing by just three over Elliott Sadler. The Xfinity series is back in action next Saturday at the one-mile track of Phoenix International Raceway.
