During first round competition in the Garrett Turbo Pro Mod at the 4th Annual NMCA WEST Finals, competition got real sporty at the 1,000 foot mark for the two prominent competitors. Scott Oksas got loose and veered left into the wall, finally spinning to a stop. While most eyes were focused on Oksas, Mike Bowman’s chutes failed to deploy and he ended up going into the sand trap and safety net.
Both drivers are fine, and Oksas wasn't terribly grief-stricken as he pointed out the race car insurance he buys is one of his best investments.
Travel back in time to an era when iconic Funny Car racer Billy Meyer ushered in a new era of all-concrete drag strips. The Texas Motorplex made it's NHRA debut in 1986 with the Chief Auto Parts Nationals, and the results were incredible. The event marked the NHRA's return to the Dallas area for the first time since the 1970s.
