STORYTELLERS ENCORE - SCOTTY CANNON: HOW DID THAT WORK OUT FOR YOU?

A new video series from the makers of the Legends: The Series, CompetitionPlusTV presents the best stories of drag racing as told by the legends themselves. In this episode, six-time Pro Modified champion turned fuel Funny Car racer Scotty Cannon tells the story about the day his mouth wrote a check he wondered if his butt could cash. That's a bit of Southern lingo, but once you hear the story the meaning will become quite clear. This humorous story tells about the day Cannon got mouthy with an IHRA official and paid the price for it.

CLASSIC VIDEO - CHICAGO STYLE DRAG RACING FROM U.S. 30 DRAGWAY

Travel back in time to a race track located 30 miles outside of Joliet, Illinois, where match racing was king.

US 30 Drag Strip in Gary, Indiana was an experience indeed, with the grandstands and the pits more entertaining with its betting and fanfare than anything else.

"It was probably more dangerous outside of the car than inside," Top Fuel racer Luigi Novelli said with a laugh. "There was a lot of betting going on there. There was some bullets flying from time to time too."

#CLASSICDRAGRACING: 1988 NHRA SUPERNATIONALS, BRADENTON, FL.

The year was 1988, and NHRA was engaged in a full-scale war, the likes of which hadn't been seen since the IHRA became a formidable force in drag racing. Texas Motorplex owner Billy Meyer had just purchased the series from Larry Carrier and moved it to Waco, Texas, and likewise pulled his crown jewel of a race track out of the NHRA and put it in IHRA.

One of the staples of the IHRA schedule was rain, and so much so the IHRA actually was recognized as "it has rained again." The Super Nationals in Bradenton, Fla., was originally supposed to be the season-opener but because of rain, it fell in line behind Darlington, which had traditionally been the season opener.

Enjoy the day, or at least an hour of it, with this gem.

REMEMBERING ROLAND: LEGENDS: THE SERIES - THE LEGEND OF ROLAND LEONG

Although he had driven competitively at some loosely organized events in his native Hawaii and even though he had enjoyed some driving success in a Top Gasser on the mainland, Roland Leong probably would not have become a drag racing legend if his need for speed hadn’t sent him crashing off the end of Lions Drag Strip on his first lap as an aspiring Top Fuel driver.
