VIDEO - 1983 NHRA SUPER GAS RACING BEFORE ELECTRONICS

Back in the early days of Super Gas, when electronics were taboo, the NHRA featured elaiminations from the 1983 Gatornationals. The 1983 season was the second full season for the 9.90 class and a driver could actually enter and have a reasonable change of winning with an all-steel car and a manual transmission. Watch this old Diamond P video and you can see just how much the face of this class has changed.

This classic video features a mix of today's and yesterday's hitters including Doug Kirk, Johnny Labbous, Deat Buckner and Mike Mazza. Some cars had automatics, some had Lencos and others had the old school Doug Nash transmissions.
