Tim Nicholson stands as a reminder of the old days of Super Gas racing when in the formative days a 9.90 racer could race competitively without an automatic transmission and mid-range throttle stop. 

In the final results from the AAA Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals and the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, David Rampy claimed victory and took home is his 99th NHRA national event win this weekend at Gateway Motorsports Park.
 
Rampy, Piedmont, Ala., worked his way through the field and ran 7.240 seconds at 166.13 mph in his final round victory over Allen Wilson, Kokomo, Ind., who clocked in at 8.238 seconds, 163.75 mph. Wilson took the starting line advantage off the line but could not hold off Rampy, giving Rampy win number 99 at the national level.

The Factory Stock Showdown record took a beating on Saturday at the NHRA Midwest Nationals outside of St. Louis, and not surprisingly it was the two-car Don Schumacher Racing team blistering the mark.

Mark Pawuk nailed the mark in the final qualifying session with a 7.929 elapsed time.

It was a long night yesterday before a winner… and a runner-up… both walked away with a new dragster in the American Race Cars/Racetech Super Tuesday Dragster Shootout, but we’re sure Thomas Bell and Corey Gulitti didn’t mind the late night as both walked away winners.

Today began with a single time trial for all competitors followed immediately by eliminations on Yukon Gear & Axle Wednesday, a day where by the end of the night one lucky, and most assuredly talented racer will walk away with $15,000 after his or her win. In addition to the win money, as is always the case at any Fling event, a fair amount of round money and prizes are given away.

In the final results from Woodburn Dragstrip and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Kim Parker closed the deal in Top Alcohol Dragster for her first Lucas Oil Series win while Brian Hough collected his 18th in Top Alcohol Funny Car.
 
Parker defeated Garrett Bateman and Casey Grisel in rounds one and two for the right to race No. 1 qualifier Shawn Cowie in the final. Parker, Graham, Wash., saved her best run of eliminations in a 5.239 second, 275.90 mph lap to defeat Cowie who slowed to a 5.582, 195.27 for his runner up finish. 

The more drag racing changes, the more it stays the same for Jim Boburka.

Take for instance, the NHRA U.S. Nationals. While it is still the toughest trophy to earn on the 24-race tour, the approach has changed drastically. 

Try as he might, Boburka cannot seem to get the point across to today's drag racing youth just how tough racing the NHRA U.S. Nationals used to be. Indeed, the struggle was real.

Duane Shields and Matt Gill raced to victory at this weekend’s NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at New England Dragway and the final stop in the NHRA Northeast Division Lucas Oil Series.
 
Shields, Boulder City, Nev., collected his fourth win of the year having won earlier at Gainesville Raceway, Lebanon Valley Dragway and Maple Grove Raceway. Shields qualified number one in Top Alcohol Dragster and took out Dan Page in the semifinals to advance to the final round against Josh Hart who was coming off a big win at the U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis. Shields saved his best run of eliminations for last as he crossed the finish line in 5.213 seconds at 278.92 mph to defeat Hart.
 

 
Jimmy Hidalgo Jr. raced his way into the final round in not one by two classes this weekend for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at South Georgia Motorsports Park and took home the win in Stock Eliminator.
 
The second-generation driver, Hidalgo worked his way through the fields in both Stock and Super Stock and posted a solid .024 second package in Stock to take out Daniel Young, Palm Harbor, Fla., for the first half of the possible double-up. Young ran too quick as he tried to chase Hidalgo down.
 
In the Super Stock final, Hidalgo, Donaldsonville, La., faced off with Jeff Longhany, Wade, N.C., who got the jump off the start and took the win as Hidalgo was forced to run too quick and broke out. Longhany posted a 9.842 second lap at 133.91 mph.
