RICKIE SMITH WINS MEMPHIS

The prospects of Rickie Smith racing his new Chevrolet Cobalt Pro Stocker in 2008 are slim, but that didn't stop him from showcasing the potential of the car during the Mid-South Street Nationals in Memphis, Tennessee. This triumph came in the maiden entry of the car.

The event marked the first exposure for Smith the Outlaw Pro Street division and although he didn't know what to expect initially, he quickly found his groove with a 6.33 elapsed time at over 220 mph. This came during a Friday afternoon test and tune.

During qualifying on Saturday, Smith once again showcased his talent well as he emerged aas the low qualifier. Smith reached the final round and  with the victory pocketed $10,000 for his efforts.

“Man, that was fun” said Smith.  “I can’t believe how awesome this new car is.  I mean , we literally picked
it up at Bickel’s shop and drove straight to the track.  On the first pass right out of the trailer we
went 6.33.  I’ve never been to one of these Outlaw races, but I’ll have to say I will definitely be back
to run in one again soon.”

With no major sponsor on his Pro Stock car, Smith will be forced to sit out the 2008 IHRA season this year.
Instead Smith will shift his focus to his Pro Modified car in the ADRL Series.
