DPM HEADED TO BROWNSBURG

David Powers Motorsports will locate its new team headquarters, garage and testing facility in Brownsburg, Indiana, creating 42 new jobs.

The award-winning race team will invest more than $3 million to locate its new 30,000 square-foot facility here and will begin hiring engineers, technicians and logisticians later this year.

“Motorsports has a rich history and a bright future in Indiana," said Governor Mitch Daniels. "We'll continue to encourage motorsports companies from across the country and around the globe to locate and expand here as we build Indiana's reputation as the motorsports capital of the world.”

David Powers Motorsports fields the two-car Top Fuel operation of drivers Whit Bazemore and Rod Fuller. Fuller leads the NHRA Top Fuel points standings heading into this weekend’s NHRA U.S. Nationals at Indianapolis’ O’Reilly Raceway Park, while Bazemore, a 20-time NHRA winner, ranks seventh in the class.

“Moving to Brownsburg was a great decision for both our business and our employees,” team owner David Powers said. “By locating here, our team can spend more time with their families and we can spend more days building the best team possible.”

Powers joins a growing list of motorsports teams who have opted to call Indiana home. In April 2007, National DRAGSTER called Indianapolis suburb Brownsburg the new 'Drag Racing Capital of the World'.  Kenny Bernstein Racing recently brought his top-fuel dragster and funny car teams here.  J.J. Yeley Racing, Pedregon Brothers Racing, 360 Brakes, Schumacher Racing, Vance and Hines Motorsports, Indy Performance Composites, Beck Motorsports, Morgan Lucas Racing, Larry Dixon, Gotham City Racing (Mike Ashley) and Snake Racing have all recently made the move to Brownsburg’s “Nitro Alley.”   Kasey Kahne Racing and Tony Stewart Racing have also selected Brownsburg as their home for their USAC outlaw teams.

“David Powers Motorsports is another of racing’s leaders who have found Brownsburg to be among the best places to locate their high-tech racing team,” said Mike Green, Brownsburg Town Councilman.  “We welcome David and his team and look forward to bringing more of the industry’s top teams to Central Indiana.”

The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered David Powers Motorsports up to $260,000 in performance-based tax credits based on the company’s announced job creation plans.

Powers joins the ranks of the more than 1,400 motorsports-specific businesses in Indiana that employ thousands of Hoosiers in jobs that pay approximately 150 percent of the average median income of Indiana's workforce.
