With NHRA’s Countdown to the Championship in full swing, Courtney Force is once again proving she is a legitimate contender to win a world championship.

At the Texas Motorplex, Force qualified No. 1 and then claimed the FallNationals title on Sunday.

Force clocked a 4.227-second lap at 301.07 mph to defeat Del Worsham’s 4.309-second run at 285.65 effort.

This was Force’s third win of the season to go along with the races she won at Topeka, Kan., and Sonoma, Calif., and her first in Dallas. Force and Alexis DeJoria now have won three nitro Funny Car races each this season.

“It is a cool feeling to see what the females have done in this sport, and it’s cool to see how things have progressed this season,” Force said. “I’m excited for our team and we are definitely pushing forward. We needed to get that win because we started to fall back a little bit after dad (John) took me out in first round in Charlotte. I’m glad we had a good comeback and to get a win out here in Dallas is pretty special for us.”

This was Force’s sixth career win, tying her for the same number of wins with the late Eric Medlen, a former John Force Racing driver who died on March 23, 2007 following an on-track crash at Gainesville, Fla., March 19.

“Tying myself with Eric Medlen is huge,” Courtney said. “I was very close with him throughout his racing and I looked up to him, so it’s definitely cool to tie him on wins. It’s definitely very special for me and my team.”

On Sunday, Courtney beat Tony Pedregon, teammate Robert Hight and Tommy Johnson Jr., before ousting Worsham.

“We’ve been a little under the radar because dad is No. 1 in points and Robert (Hight) is No. 2 and everyone is trying to catch up with them,” Courtney said. “They’re definitely creating a huge gap with dad being in so many different finals in a row. That’s how we kind of slipped back in the shadows, but we definitely came out this weekend and I guess brought everyone’s attention back over to our Traxxas team and showed them we have a great car. To be the No. 1 qualifier and then win the race is definitely an exciting thing.”
