DHL CREWMEMBER MICHAEL MORRIS READY TO RUN BOSTON MARATHON

Michael Morris, head cylinder mechanic on the Kalitta Motorsports DHL Funny Far, is getting ready to compete in the Boston Marathon in April.

The World Marathon Majors organization has six international marathons, including Boston, Chicago, New York, Tokyo, London, and Berlin. Only 174 individuals have raced in all six marathons, and Morris wants to be one of them. The Boston marathon will be his third and final marathon in the United States, and then he hopes to run the courses in Europe.

Only 174 individuals have raced in all six marathons, and Morris wants to be one of them. The Boston marathon will be his third and final marathon in the United States, and then he hopes to run the courses in Europe.

Morris started running marathons in 2011 when some of his friends urged him to compete.

“It becomes addictive, like drag racing,” Morris said. “Running has become enjoyable and I have set a life goal of competing in all 6 marathons.”

Morris points out that while most might not think that drag racing and running marathons have a correlation with each other, they do.

“What I do out at the track helps me with running and vice a versa,” said Morris. “I am mentally strong from working out at the track for 12 to14 hours a day and that makes you stronger when running a marathon.”

In addition to participating in the Boston Marathon, Morris plans to raise awareness for a local Boston cancer research charity. He plans to honor his stepfather and Jim Oberhofer’s wife, Tammy, both cancer victims.

“It is near and dear to my heart to try to help others,” said Morris.

Last November Morris competed in the ING New York Marathon and dedicated his finisher’s medal to Tammy Oberhofer, which was presented to Ashley and Jim Oberhofer at the World Finals in Pomona.
