ANDERSON UPBEAT AFTER BRADENTON TEST

bradentontesting 27 20130116 1912059000Greg Anderson has been dealing with some changes this offseason.

The four-time Pro Stock world champion is adjusting to having Vincent Nobile in the Summit Racing Equipment camp, along with his longtime teammate Jason Line.

Nobile announced November 18 to Competition Plus that he is getting engines from the Summit Team and Anderson and Line’s team owner Ken Black.

Anderson got his first good look at the progress his team is making when he and Nobile tested at Bradenton (Fla.) Motorsports Park Jan. 13-16.

“It went well,” Anderson said. “We tested a lot of different stuff. We ran three days with his car (Nobile) and three days with my car. We got to see what things are going to be like with us and the Mitsos family and I think it is going to be a great marriage, a great partnership. We will be sharing information with him (Nobile).”

Rob (Downing) and Tim Freeman are the crew chiefs for the Summit Racing team.

The Mitsos family – Nick and Irene - own Nobile’s car which will once again be sponsored by Mountain View Tire. NAPA Auto Parts and Valvoline also will remain as major associate sponsors for Nobile.

Last season, Nobile drove a Dodge Avenger and was teammates with Allen Johnson and Jeg Coughlin, who was the 2013 season champion. Nobile finished ninth in the point standings on the strength of three wins.

According to Anderson, they just had two cars making runs at the Bradenton test.

“With Vincent’s car we made 17 (test runs), and we made around the same amount of runs with my car,” Anderson said. “We were making full passes and things went well.”

Anderson said he was testing the Camaro he ran at the end of the 2013 season and Nobile was driving a Camaro that Line was driving at the end of last year.

“Jason (Line) is having a new Camaro built and he will be testing at Phoenix,” Anderson said.

The test session in Phoenix at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park is scheduled for Feb. 3-5.

Nobile is also having a 2014 Camaro built and he hopes to debut it at the season-opening Winternationals Feb. 6-9 in Pomona, Calif.

Anderson won NHRA Pro Stock world championships in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2010 and Line was world champ in 2006 and 2011.

A year ago Line was third in the season points and Anderson was eighth.

Those titles and Nobile’s addition have given Anderson high expectations for 2014.

“We want to finish 1-2-3 in the points and win as many races as we can,” Anderson said. “There are just so many tough teams that you have to go up against out there.”
