ALLEN JOHNSON CRACKS 6.50 BARRIER

Allen Johnson, owner/driver of the Mopar Dodge Avenger, in the NHRA Pro Stock class, cracked the 6.50 second barrier this morning while testing at Bradenton fri_allenMotorsports Park. Johnson turned on the lights with a stunning 6.498 second pass at 213.06 miles per hour.

“It was pretty awesome and we actually left a little on the table, slipped the clutch too much,” Johnson confirmed, when asked what a 6.498 second run felt like.

Johnson stated the adjusted altitude for his memorable run was a just a little over sea level.

Johnson stated the adjusted altitude for his memorable run was a just a little over sea level.

“I read the graph when we got back and that told me loud and clear,” Johnson continued.

Johnson confirmed his incremental clocking were .963 [60-foot], 2.715 [330-foot] and 4.179, 168.47 mph to the eighth-mile.

The veteran Mopar driver believes the car actually had .01 of a second to play with on the run. Johnson tried to turn the car around quickly in an attempt to further his historic effort but failed miserably when he said the team slipped the clutch too much.

“The conditions are changing quickly,” confirmed Johnson.

But for now, Johnson said these runs provides the team with plenty of motivation to challenge for the title in 2011. He credits his new Dodge Avenger from RJ Race Cars for making the difference.

“I think we have a car now that isn’t going to be so darn finicky,” Johnson admitted. “I feel like the new chassis is going to be forgiving. It may not be as fast on the great, great runs as the other one, but it will have a larger window and be more forgiving.

“This does a lot for our motivation.”
