FAST FIVE WITH BOOGIE SCOTT

06charlesboogiescott.jpgCharles "Boogie" Scott said he has no idea where he got his nickname from. 'I've
had since I was a baby," the Louisiana native said in his distinctive drawl. "I
grew up with it." Boogie has also earned the title of being a "racer's racer."
His career is the envy of all hot rodders: for some 50 years, Boogie has built
and driven championship quality cars for the street, the strip and the salt.
Still active, Boogie was a recent inductee into the exclusive Bonneville Salt
Flats 200 MPH Club, and continues to construct a variety of cars at his
Covington, La. shop. In fact, he's building a Cacklefest car (a remake of the
Cupit and Cunningham dragster). He'll take a break when he visits Beech Bend
Raceway Park as an Honoree at the 6th annual Holley National Hot Rod Reunion,
June 13-15.

FORCE'S VOICE OF REASON

Still healing from a devastating crash in Dallas, John Force thought
about quitting. Then a voice of reason spoke up.

Longtime crew chief
Austin Coil told Force quitting simply wasn't an option.

With a victory Sunday in Topeka, Force realized winning is just as
therapeutic as physical training. And, more rewarding not just for
himself but for his entire organization.

“It’s huge for me mentally,” Force said of the win.

ADCOCK IS HOPING SIXTH TIME IS THE CHARM AT JEGS ALL-STARS

Five times in the last 24 years, Sherman Adcock has earned the right to compete
in the prestigious JEGS Allstars competition and each time, the Columbus, Ga.,
racer has come up short of his ultimate goal of reaching the winner’s circle.
Adcock, a two-time NHRA world champion, will be back for his sixth attempt at
JEGS Allstar glory when the special event kicks off at Route 66 Raceway on June
7, during the Torco Race Fuels NHRA Nationals. Adcock will be one of eight
competitors in the Super Comp category who will be vying for the $4,500 top
prize.

The
JEGS Allstars is a special event that is open only to the best sportsman racers
from each of NHRA’s seven geographic divisions, based on a year-long points
battle. In addition to the individual championships in eight eliminators,
Allstars competitors will also be competing for the $20,000 bonus that is
awarded to the overall team champions. Adcock, who represents the Southeast
Division (Division 2), was part of the winning team in 1991. He also qualified
for the prestigious event in 1986, 1995, 2002, and 2007.

PEDREGON PLEASED WITH TOYOTA

0822-00830.jpgFormer world champion Funny Car driver Cruz Pedregon was pleased with the
progress his Advance Auto Parts race team made in its inaugural outing with the
group's slick new Toyota Solara body. Pedregon made five consecutive runs down
Heartland Park Topeka, which made him one of the most consistent drivers in the
class for the entire weekend.

"Our crew chief Rahn Tobler was focused all
weekend on finding the consistency we had at the start of the year," said
Pedregon, a 27-time national event winner. "We had a great meeting (Sunday) and
we both realized we're in a really good place with the car and the tune-up right
now. The plan is to keep doing what we're doing.

SCELZI RUNS STRONG TO SEMIFINAL FINISH IN TOPEKA

Gary Scelzi had a strong, solid weekend at the NHRA Summer Nationals driving the
Mopar/Oakley Dodge Charger R/T Funny Car to his first semifinal finish of the
2008 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series.

No. 10 qualifier Scelzi saw his
round-winning streak end when he and opponent Tim Wilkerson had a pedalfest down
Heartland Park Topeka's quarter-mile. With track temperatures reaching 130
degrees, Scelzi took off with a stellar reaction time of .056 to Wilkerson's
.080 (.000 is perfect), then struck the tires first, while Wilkerson hazed his
later. As both scrambled to regain traction, Scelzi recovered, but the finish
line came too soon as Wilkerson claimed the win with a 6.009/194.32 to Scelzi's
6.138/210.70. Margin of victory: .1051 of a second.

En route to the
semifinal, Scelzi defeated Robert Hight with a 4.927/305.70 and Bob Tasca III
with a 4.997/298.14.

JEGGIE CLIMBS TWO SPOTS IN POINTS WITH SEMI-FINAL FINISH

Jeg Coughlin Jr. showed why he's a four-time champion Sunday at Heartland Park
Topeka, racing from the No. 13 position and upsetting two higher-slotted drivers
to card a strong semifinal showing that lifted him two spots in the world
rankings. The extraordinary effort after a trouble-filled qualifying session
placed him second in the points, just 20 markers behind new leader Kurt
Johnson.

Coughlin's JEGS.com Chevrolet Cobalt looked good during his two
victorious runs. The 52-time national event winner beat Greg Stanfield with a
6.751 at 203.52 mph to Stanfield's 6.770 at 203.00 mph in Round 1, before
knocking off Mike Edwards in the quarterfinals with a 6.774 at 204.17 mph to
Edwards' 6.793 at 203.28 mph.

"You always want to win but we're pretty
pleased with the weekend and how it turned out," Coughlin said. "I can't say I'm
too surprised. We didn't look that great in qualifying but that was more of a
result of how things fell into place. We hurt a motor in Q2 and that was the
session everyone was putting up the big numbers.

COUGHLIN JOINS LIST OF HAPPY ALL-STARS CHAMPS

As a vice president of JEGS Mail Order, John Coughlin has a pivotal role in the
company’s involvement in the annual JEGS Allstars race, which is held each year
at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Ill. Coughlin, along with his brothers, Troy,
Mike and Jeg, and their staff, help plan and promote the annual event, which
brings together the best sportsman racers from each of NHRA’s seven geographic
divisions.

Now, Coughlin will have the rare opportunity to experience the JEGS
Allstars from a different perspective as he competes in the event as the North
Central Division’s Super Stock representative on Saturday June 7, during the
Torco Race Fuel Route 66 Nationals. Racing his familiar yellow and black Chevy
Cobalt, Coughlin survived a heated battle against some of the division’s top
drivers to earn his spot on the team, which will be competing for a share of the
more than $100,000 in posted awards. If he can win the Super Stock title,
Coughlin will earn $6,000 and if he is able to lead the Division 3 group to the
overall team title, they will split an additional $20,000 bonus.

WILKERSON PADS POINTS LEAD

Tim Wilkerson increased his POWERade points lead today at the O’Reilly Summer
Nationals at Heartland Park Topeka by taking his Levi, Ray & Shoup
Chevy Impala SS all the way to the final-round.

The very talented Wilkerson put his qualifying struggles
behind him as he charged his way through the ranks.  In the first-round,
Wilkerson sent Frank Hawley packing with a holeshot as Wilk’s .072 reaction time
gave his 4.889 the win light against Hawley’s 4.849.  In the second round,
Wilkerson beat Jerry Toliver with a 5.005 to Toliver’s 5.021.  In the semi’s
Wilkerson faced Gary Scelzi.  This round was a pedal-fest, and when the dust
settled, Wilkerson again had the win light.
