NHRA Vegas Style Fan Fest, the official kickoff to the 2009 NHRA Las Vegas Nationals, will take place Thursday, Oct. 29, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Fremont Street in Las Vegas.

NHRA has announced a scheduling change for Stock and Super Stock class eliminations at the upcoming Las Vegas NHRA Nationals, Oct. 29-Nov. 1 at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

This Friday at the Texas Motorplex in Ennis, Texas, the National Guard ADRL’s unique Speedtech Battle for the Belts will pit the top eight points earners for each of the eighth-mile series’ five professional classes—Pro Extreme, Pro Nitrous, Flowmaster Extreme 10.5, Pro Extreme Motorcycle and Extreme Pro Stock—against each other to determine world champions, while all points earned through qualifying and elimination rounds the next day in the LenMar Motorsports ADRL World Finals V will count toward the 2010 points chase.

In what has become a “Mecca” for muscle cars and drag racing enthusiasts for the last twenty years, the legendary Memphis Motorsports Park on October 16^th, 2009 was the spot to be if you wanted to prove you had the quickest and fastest muscle car in the country. It was also the third time for the GM Performance Parts LSX Shootout, which drew some of the baddest LS-powered drag cars as well. There were over 500 cars acceleration machines on the property, a record car count for this event, and the competition was stout in all categories. The NMCA’s Nostalgia, Index, and Heads-Up classes, combined with the 3^rd Annual LSX Shootout, made the 2009 World Finals one to remember. The crisp, down-right chilly air meant that the cars across the board were capable of making big horsepower, but a cold racing surface on Saturday made the track surface a bit tricky for all racers and it came down to who could get a hold on the track’s characteristics.

NHRA Top Fuel driver Clay Millican competed in a charity golf tournament last week, and unless a sponsor comes along in the next few days that might be the only competition he sees in Las Vegas this season.

Millican, driver of the Mark Pickens Enterprises/Hope-4-Sudan dragster, participated in the Justin Timberlake/Shriner’s Hospital PGA Celebrity Pro/Am Golf Tournament in Las Vegas.

An old drag racing friend died Friday, October 16, 2009.

This friend didn’t die of natural causes, it was a slow and painful death; the result of poisoning caused by poor management and arrogance.

Racing is something that has been in Mendy Fry’s blood since she was toddler.

At the age of 4, under the guidance of her late father Ron Fry, she was driving quarter-midget sprint cars.

By the age of 18, Fry was piloting a Top Alcohol dragster and she has kept driving all types of cars off and on from that point.

Will Martin has a lot to be proud of. The son of former nitro racer John Martin, this second generation driver has been a grade over successful on the merits of five California Injected Funny Car Association race wins [CIFCA] and clinched a second consecutive title this year.

Dunn-Benson Dragstrip [Benson, NC] will present its final Top Dawg event of the season on Saturday, October 31. The will feature a 16-car field. Top Dawg officials have modified the tire rules for this event, allowing both slicks or DOT's.

Race Team Mechanic:

Full time position available for experienced race mechanic on Pro Mod Race Team.

Must be in the Atlanta area or able to relocate.

Successful candidate will have excellent working knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems on race cars.

Engine, clutch, transmission assembly experience is required and Tig and fab skills a plus.

Must be able to work with and without supervision.

ALL candidates must have a CDL.
