TASCA QUICKLY GAINING SPEED WITH NEW BOSS PLATFORM

Tasca_Ford_MustangBob Tasca predicted on Friday night he could run even faster on Saturday. He firmly stated he could run better under the heat of a Georgia sun than he did Friday night on a cooler track.

Tasca backed up his words with a 4.151 second, 299.73 mph pass during the first of two rounds of qualifying Saturday morning.

“When you have a race car that's predictable and you can make an adjustment and you know what it's going to do you can be a pretty dangerous team for a long time,” said Tasca following the run.

PATIENCE WORKS WELL FOR ARANA

Hector Arana in the last couple of seasons has learned patience can be a virtue. Never was this lesson DSA_5031put to the test more than during the final Pro Stock Motorcycle qualifying session at the NHRA Southern Nationals in Commerce, Ga.

Arana watched two riders ahead of him ride their way to the No. 1 qualifying position. If Arana would have had his druthers, he’s have been alongside of them.

JOHNSON PREPARES FOR HEAT, EDWARDS

The final run of Saturday Pro Stock qualifying at the NHRA Southern Nationals concluded with DSA_4532the two best cars on the property of Atlanta Dragway battling for the top spot.

Allen Johnson admittedly lost the battle with Mike Edwards but won the war when his previous 6.634 second pass held through a session the least conducive to yielded big numbers for Pro Stockers.

JEGS SPORTSNATIONALS SHIFTS INTO HIGH GEAR

After two days of intense qualifying action, the fields are set for the fifth annual JEGS NHRA Pacific SPORTSnationals at Auto Club Dragway.
           
In Saturday afternoon’s final qualifying session, Randy Walker of Palm Desert, Calif., drove his unique A/Pro Mod ’74 El Camino to the top spot with a run of 6.318-seconds, .732-seconds under the index. Walker’s run bumped Friday leader, John Mihovetz of Ontario, Calif., to the No. 2 spot. Defending JEGS Pacific SPORTSnationals champ Ed Sigmon is also in the field, qualified No. 18 with his ’34 Chevy roadster.
           
After qualifying and class eliminations in Super Stock, Josh Edwards of Glendale, Ariz., is the leader with a 9.404 effort in his SS/GM ’92 Camaro. Edwards leads a field that also includes former national champions John Calvert, and Jimmy DeFrank as well as last year’s JEGS Pacific SPORTSnationals champ, Mark Faul.

DIXON, FORCE HOOD, JOHNSON AND ARANA NO. 1 QUAL. IN COMMERCE

Larry Dixon raced to the No. 1 qualifying position in Top Fuel Saturday at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals at Atlanta Dragway.

Ashley Force Hood, Allen Johnson and Hector Arana also will lead their respective categories into Sunday’s 11 a.m. eliminations at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series event.

Dixon’s Al-Anabi Racing dragster was the quickest in each of four qualifying sessions and as a result the series points leader claimed his second No. 1 position of the season and 42nd of his career with a performance of 3.822 seconds at 316.08 mph. The three-time Atlanta Dragway winner will face No. 16 qualifier Steve Torrence in the first round.

JANIS QUALIFIES NO. 1 ADVANCES TO SECOND RD.

Mike Janis claimed his first career No. 1 qualifying position Saturday at Atlanta Dragway in NHRA Get Screened America Pro Mod Drag Racing Series DSA_5000competition. He then defeated Brad Personett in the first round of eliminations.
