ADRL BANS TITANIUM WHEEL STUDS

The American Drag Racing League (ADRL) announced today that titanium wheel studs are prohibited in all professional classes, effective immediately, and the rule will be checked for compliance beginning Mar. 19-20, at the season-opening Universal Technical Institute Dragpalooza VI presented by Safety-Kleen.

“The ADRL has been monitoring this issue for the past year and last week during our monthly Rules Committee meeting, committee members voted unanimously to ban the use of titanium wheel studs in all professional categories,” Tom Grooms of the ADRL Technical Services division said. “So, all ADRL competitors are advised to make this immediate change.”

Additionally, ADRL Technical Services reiterated that all Pro Extreme and Pro Nitrous entries are required to have full-floating rear-end housings this season, as per the 2010 ADRL rules. However, recognizing that certain teams may still need time to comply, Grooms said a one-event extension to rule implementation has been granted.

MMPSA CONTINGENCY EXPANDS WITH BRASWELL CARBURETORS AND SONNY’S RACING ENGINES

Drag racing manufacturers have long supported the Mountain Motor cause, and many are excited for the formation of a strictly mountain motor entity. Such is the case as two more companies join the MMPSA contingency program.

Braswell Carburetors has been an innovative leader in Mountain Motor performance, so it is only fitting that they now come on board as a contingency sponsor with the MMPSA. Dave Braswell is constantly hard at work to improve quality and performance of his carburetors and Doug Schriefer is often seen in the Pro Stock pits, lending a hand and advice to customers.

The MMPSA is excited to welcome Braswell Carburetors to the program, as well as prominent engine builder, Sonny’s Racing Engines.

PROJECT WHITE WAGON: LATEST INSTALLMENT

02_27_2009_wagonThe more the Project White Wagon becomes a topic of conversation the more skeletons fall out of the closet. It appears to us that there was a lot more to this lady than met the eye.

There are rumors the car pushed the rule book’s gray areas to the limits, including speculation the car had the front and rear axles moved forward like an FX car, a claim that Fulton chuckles over.

TJ SR.: THE DRAG RACER WHO BEAT CANCER AND LIVED TO WRITE ABOUT IT

COVER_OF_BOOKTommy Johnson Sr. remembered the day he sat in his truck, paralyzed with the news delivered just an hour earlier. Never in a million years would Johnson, then a competitive player in the mail order parts business, have ever believed his cancerous death sentence would one day lead to his greatest triumph and serve as the inspiration to author a book written about the experience.

Johnson’s book, titled simply CANCER: The True Story of How I Survived Absolute Terminal Cancer, recently hit the marketplace and while the self-published book doesn’t share the same glossy look as those on Amazon.com, he believes the message inside is more than enough to make the average person do a double-take at their everyday life. A strong message of survival is the key selling point.

“If I can save just one life, then the last ten years in making this book a reality has been worth it,” said Johnson, father of current nitro racer Tommy Johnson Jr. “I want everyone who buys the book to pass it on to someone else.”
