READING BROADCAST DELIVERS NHRA'S LARGEST-EVER TV AUDIENCE

Sometimes, it doesn’t matter how you get there; you just have to get there.

Sunday afternoon, the NHRA definitely got there.

Following the NFL on Fox’s 1 - 4 PM EST slot on Sunday, the Pep Boys NHRA Nationals delivered 1,678,000 viewers – the most for NHRA on FOX. The NHRA receives one NFL adjacent game per year, and this season’s was up 10 percent (the equivalent of 150,000) viewers over last year’s NHRA Carolina Nationals broadcast.

Peak viewership had the NHRA broadcast at 2.8 million viewers. A big key in the numbers was 578,000 viewers in the 18-49 year old demographic.

The event was a sellout on Saturday and nearly was on Sunday at Maple Grove Raceway.

In comparison to other series, NHRA had 165,000 more viewers in the highly sought-after 18-49 demographic at the NASCAR event in Bristol, Tenn., while coming within 100,000 of beating the overall viewership of the event. The 1,678,000 viewers are more than an IndyCar race this year, minus the Indy 500.

"It’s exciting to see the partnership between NHRA and FOX continue to grow and lead to such tremendous numbers," said Steve Reintjes, NHRA VP of Broadcasting. "The NHRA on FOX team has continued to deliver several new innovations in the broadcast and we were thrilled to again have Tony Stewart in the booth. With a record-setting audience tuned in, our race teams put on an incredible show and we’re thankful for all of our NHRA fans, as well as new fans tuning in for the first time.”
