Jet car racing icon Doug Rose was killed Friday, August 17, while making an exhibition run at Norway Speedway, a one-third mile oval track located in the upper peninsula of Michigan.

Rose was performing an exhibition of smoke and fire when the car began to accelerate and impacted the wall. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rose was 80.
