BOGGS JOINS LEWIS FAMILY TAD TEAM

NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster driver Brandon ‘The Kid’ Lewis and the Lewis Family Racing team have retained the services of legendary tuner Steve Boggs for the remainder of the 2008 season.  Boggs was available after Top Fuel racer Morgan Lucas disbanded his A/Fuel team.  Team owner Dave Lewis quickly took advantage of the opportunity to hire Boggs, who is considered by many to be one of the greatest tuners in the history of the sport.  The TigerFlow Systems/Morrison Construction backed A/Fuel Dragster team debuted with Boggs in their corner during this weekend’s Lucas Oil Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway in Brainerd, Minn.

Lewis, 22, of Broken Arrow, Okla., is excited about getting to race under the direction of Boggs.  Boggs’ tuning résumé includes tuning Mitch Myers’ A/Fuel Dragster to a World Championship in 2004, along with tuning Joe Penland and Tony Bartone to World Championships in Top Alcohol Funny Car.  Lucas ran a 5.16 second elapsed time last year under the direction of Boggs, which is the quickest run by an A/Fuel Dragster at 96% nitro.  He also has numerous other national records to his credit. “To say we’re excited doesn’t quite explain it,” said Lewis.  “Ever since we’ve brought him on board, he has been very straight-forward with us and pretty much has laid everything we need to do on the table.  We changed the motor combination up quite a bit, so this should be a totally different animal.  It’s just been real nice having him help us.  He has so much information and experience with these cars.  He’s telling us things that we never would have thought of or tried.  Another nice thing about is we’re getting someone’s full attention.  We’re not just getting a consultant to come between rounds, he’ll be with our team full time, which is a huge asset in itself.

“We made a couple of eighth mile runs at a match race last month with the new combination,” Lewis continued.  “Other than that, this is all new for us going into the weekend.  It’s almost like having a new car.  The weather is supposed to be nice, so we’re really looking forward to it.  It’s going to take some runs to figure out what our particular car wants, so our goal this weekend is to make some progress with the new combination.  We also want to make a good showing for our sponsors TigerFlow, Morrison Construction, ATTA Tank, Lucas Oil, Unifirst and A-1 Auto Body.”
